A 6 Hour Tour

Today Jared went sailing with the Classen men. I was invited as well, and although J wanted me to go it was a boys trip and we decided it was best if he went solo. Wow, were we ever right about that! They were sailing from Mentor to Cleveland which would be a 5 mph trip depending on the winds. But when we woke up today, there were boating advisories... water spouts were possible out on the lake and large waves... I wasn't sure this was a good idea.

It was so overcast, windy, and really dreary.
But he went anyway. We packed him up with as much waterproof gear as we had. While he was gone I did some shopping, watched a chick flick at home, and worried about him. When Dr. Classen called to let me know they were about an hour away from harbor I asked how Jared was doing... not so well. When I picked him up I knew it was bad. I could read it all over his face.

He said it was horrible. Terrible. The worst 6 hours of his life. At one point he wasn't sure they were going to make it. WHAT?!? He thought for sure the boat was going to split in two several times. OH NO!! He was so glad I hadn't gone. I know I would've made Dr. Classen turn the boat around. I didn't know why he hadn't made them turn back. Travis and Will looked exhausted. Dr. Classen looked a mess.
And somehow he took photos on the trip. I had wanted to see the sailing regatta they would be heading through. He said he had to hold onto the boat at all times otherwise you were going to lose your balance. Both the captain and J lost their lunch on the journey. It was bad... really, really bad. The guys were comparing their trip to the boating scenes in Forest Gump, The Truman Show, or worst yet, The Perfect Storm. They were all more than relieved to be back on dry land.

So we went to dinner at Brentwood Tavern right up the hill... and all was back to normal.

Memorial Day Weekend

This holiday weekend was full of catching up with family and friends. On Saturday night we went to a good-bye dinner for our friends The Dorns, who are moving to Virginia in a month. Our schedules are difficult to merge but over the last 5 years we have come to know their family well and they will be missed! Luckily we will get to see them at VT games in the future, being that they are Hokies too. Yet again, I have no photos of this meeting. I took some but accidentally deleted them off my new iPhone. Not a happy camper about that one. This was us in October 2011 at a VT game.

On Sunday we hung out at the pool with the Stanley family. We went to dinner at their country club and enjoyed the perfect Cleveland weather.
On Monday, J was on call and got paged just as we were walking out the door to go on Dr. Classen's boat. Luckily he finished fixing up two patients in time for us to make it out on the water for a little bit with Dr. Classen, Travis, Tiffany, Ashley and Manny the Dog.
And as always on Memorial Day we remember. We remember the reason we get the day off work, well most of us. We remember those who have fought for our freedom, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Last Weekend of Summer

This was the last weekend of the summer for us, spent in town anyway. We were busy as can be, just how I like it!

I have been working crazy shifts for work, night shifts for space station operations (sooo cool!) so my days and nights all seem to blurr recently. Friday was a day off, well sort of, since I had worked from midnight until 8am. I came home to the installation of our new kitchen tile! We have had a mini apartment face lift recently with new cabinets, appliances, tile and light fixtures. A much needed improvement from our old kitchen. Now just waiting for paint and carpet! :)
Saturday started with us participating in the Down Syndrome walk with J's Aunt's family downtown at Cleveland Indians Stadium. We were all supporting his Aunt's great nephew, Will, that was born this year with Down Syndrome. We love the Stanley family and were thrilled to support them!
I won't get into how creepy the McDonald's clown was... seriously, how do kids even like clowns?!?

On our way home we stopped at the North Chagrin Reservation and took a little walk in the Cleveland Metro Parks soaking up Buttermilk Falls...
and all of the sudden seeing some changing leaves along our path, the first signs of Fall.
How did the summer go so fast?

Luckily our weekend plans included another outing on Dr. C's sailboat,
a BBQ with friends to celebrate Meg's 28th birthday,
and the annual surgery pool party!
Towards the end of the night, an Autumn chill blew in. Can you believe I had to be at work at 2:15am the next morning? I didn't even care about either. What a fun summer!

The Celebration continues!

This past weekend was busy, as it usually is here at ECGML. It was Jared's last free weekend before his fellowship begins. Thus the need to continue the celebration that had started at his graduation banquet and make it a long 3 day weekend, well almost. I worked from home most of Monday while fighting a bad headache.

We had a blast! The weather was amazing, who knew Cleveland was so nice in the almost summer? We hung out laying like broccoli and watching movies, had a day filled with sailing on J's boss' boat.
Met up with Matt for breakfast at The Original Pancake House, which has chocolate chip pancakes to die for!
And had an entirely too much fun and such a silly time hanging out with J's roommate from medical school, Steve, and our friend Katie. All I can say is there was dinner, cocktails, and dance, dance, revolution until entirely too late... we apparently thought we were 20 again.
Super fun. I honestly don't know how I made it to work on Tuesday it was such a great weekend!

Busy Bee

As much as I do enjoy those lazy days of summer, my favorite type of day is when everything is planned from dawn 'til dusk. I love doing different activities, going out to eat and to local events. Saturday was that kind of day and the weather was amazing. Not a cloud in the sky and 80+ degrees... sometimes I really can't tell I live in Cleveland the weather is so nice.

The day began with running a few errands (coffee, obviously!) and then heading out to Mentor-on-the-Lake for a lovely afternoon of sailing!
Next up was a summertime must do... attend a baseball game! I am more of a football girl but I LOVE live sporting events! (Not that you watch dead sporting events, but you know what I mean.) There is just something more fun about it, the jumbo screen, the music, the crowd chanting, and of course the snacks. It must have been all those years in high school being on the Dance Team watching and cheering on the Wildcats in between runs to the concession stand!
Now as if that wasn't enough, we topped off the night by meeting up with a bunch of the SPH residents at Champps to watch what is seriously a ridiculous sport... Ultimate Fighting. There really are no words other than OUCH for that one.

And just when I think our day is over... we get STUCK IN THE ELEVATOR OF OUR APARTMENT! We think this is hilarious... could have been the Patron shots... or the fact that J had just said "I hope we don't get stuck in here!" seconds before we lurched to a halt.
What a great end of summer, busy from dawn 'til dusk, kind of day!
